Reserve the water route before building the day

The Agency of Protected Areas lists several routes around Paliastomi Lake and the Pichori waterways. Duration and availability vary, so ask the visitor centre what is operating for your date and group.

Bring a layer, sun protection and a secure bag for phones. Wear the life jacket supplied and respect a weather cancellation; the wetlands are not the place to negotiate with wind.

Pair nature with one Poti chapter

Poti is more than a transfer point. Its central park and distinctive cathedral make an easy cultural pause; the lighthouse and port story add context when access and hours suit your visit.

For lunch, look for western Georgian dishes rather than rushing back to the main road. Megrelian flavours such as elarji, kupati and rich walnut dishes make the northbound day feel different from Batumi.

• With young children: short boat route, park and early return.
• For photographers: reserve morning water, then use softer afternoon light in Poti.
• For birders: carry binoculars, keep voices low and avoid pushing close to wildlife.

What not to stack into the same day

Nokalakevi, Martvili and mountain detours can look close when viewed at country scale, but each adds road time, tickets and uncertainty. Kolkheti deserves enough margin for a delayed boat or a long wildlife sighting.
